Wessex Fly Fishing has been featured in all the leading game fishing publications over the years and has built up an enviable reputation for excellent sport combined with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

We have been running fly fishing in Dorset for over 40 years. Countless fishermen have enjoyed our waters, many returning every year.

Peacefully situated in the lush watermeadows beside a famous Dorset chalk stream (the River Piddle) the fishery boasts five lakes and pools giving plenty of variety: Meadow Lake (2 ½ acres), School Pool (½ acre) The Bowl (¼ acre), The Oxbow (½ acre) and Church Pool (¼ acre).

The finest rainbow trout available are stocked regularly ranging in size from 1 ¾ lbs to over 4 lbs with an average of c. 2 ½ lbs. To add excitement a few considerably larger fish are also stocked.

The water is usually beautifully clear allowing the thrill of stalking individual fish, however please note early in the season it is not unusual for one or two of the pools to carry some colour.

Fly life can be exceptional at times with hatches of buzzers, pond olives, sedges and damsel flies. All the popular stillwater fly patterns are effective; buzzers, goldhead nymphs , damsel nymphs and small lures to highlight a few.

Those visiting for the first time can be assured they will be fishing one of Dorset’s favourite and best known fisheries.

Ticket Prices

There are two ticket options to choose from:

Ticket 1: Take your first fish home, and a further three returned. – £30
Ticket 2: Take your first Two fish home, and a further three returned. £40

Fishing Guidelines

When visiting please keep to a few simple catch and release guidelines:

Use barbless hooks or pinch barbs down with long nosed pliers.
Play fish as quickly as you can.
Handle fish as little as possible and wet your hands in the mesh of your net before handling,

When fishing for your first one or two fish to be taken (ie when you start fishing) you may use barbed hooks but please remember to change to barbless thereafter.

Cracking little lake arrived 8:30 am set up and by
9am had my fish fish then 40 min later my second fish then about 50 min later hooked my 3rd fish and returned then 10 min after that hooked 4th fish
& returned & then 10 min after that 5th fish and returned happy holidays memories I will be rebooking thanks very much steve.

Fantastic fishery, more challenging now its catch and release but with the right approach I have always managed to catch 3 or 4,the fish are some of the hardest fighting fish in Dorset and I fish all the day ticket waters,fish the lakes as rivers and you will catch.
